(20-01-2019) » Field Trip: Airforce Academy, Dindigul

Dear Birders:
We have organised a very interesting outing this month.  We shall visit the  AIRFORCE  ACADEMY  at Dindigul.  It is a training institute for training of pilots for Indian Air Force.  The visit has been possible due to the good offices of Wg.Cdr. Praksh Rao (Retd), Life Member of our Society and an experienced birder.  He has taken special permission for the visit of our members.
The academy has got a huge campus with lot of greenery and could afford reasonably good bird variety.  Apart from birding, we expect to be shown their air crafts, etc.
The route to the academy is Balkampet, Balanagar and onto the Narsapur / Medak highway.  It is about 35 kms from the city.  It would be to your right – with a very prominent name board.  Please try to reach by 6:30 a.m, or latest by 7:00 a.m. so that security forrmalities can be completed.  Please carry your Aadhaar cards as also our BSAP ID cards, which may be of some help.
We shall all gather at Punjagutta by 6:00 a.m. and go in a convoy.  You can however come directly to the academy if you wish.Since Surekha is not available, I shall coordinate.  Let me know if any one need a lift as also those who can take passengers.
Remember:  Sunday, 20th January, 2019  –  6:30 a.m.  It would be half day trip.

(23-12-2018) » Field Trip: Manjeera Barrage

Dear Birders:
MANJEERA  BARRAGE  –  SUNDAY,  23.12.2018
During winters we prefer going to wetland for the migrants.  Manjeera is as good as any, plus the fields on either side of the road leading to the barrage offers very good viewing of finches, wagtails, ibises, munias, etc. etc.
We shall gather at the Punjagutta cross road at 6:30 a.m.  From here we proceed on the Bombay highway up to Sangareddy
tri-junction (about 30 kms) and turn right.  Here we shall make a final halt and proceed in a convoy, after a hot cuppa.  We have requested the Forest Department for a boat, so that we can go to the island and observe the nesting birds.  This is subject  to adequate level of the water in the lake.  While returning we shall do birding around the fields as also visit the two small water bodies.
Please carry breakfast, water etc.  Non members are requested to contribute Rs. 100/- each to the society kitty.  Members are requested to attend in large numbers as this place offers exciting birding.
Surekha (9949038532) is requested to please coordinate, as usual.  Thanks in advance.

(25-11-2018) » Field Trip: Anna Sagar Lake at Jogipet

Dear Birders:
On popular demand we have decided to explore Anna Sagar Lake at Jogipet this week-end.  For those who are not aware, the route is to go on the Mumbai highway, past BHEL, ICRISAT etc. and turn right at the Sangareddy tri-junction.  This turn off would be approximately 30 kms from Panjagutta.
After turning right, go straight, past the Sangareddy town and proceed further on the same highway for about 30 kms and you will touch Jogipet town.  Go past Jogipet for about a km, you will come to Anna Sagar on your left.  The lake is quite wide spread and one cannot miss it.  We are given to understand that there is good birding at the lake, with lots of migrants, including flamingos. avocets, etc. etc.
I suggest we meet at Punjagutta cross road, as usual, at 6:00 a.m. and start in a convoy.  The second meeting point, say by  about 7:45,  would be at the Sangareddy tri-junction, where we normally stop for a hot cuppa.
Since we need cars, members are requested take as many persons as possible in their vehicles.  Surekha (9949038532) will coordinate.  Please register with her – both lift givers and takers !  It would be nice if the fuel expenses of the vehicles are shared by the passenger.
Please keep some heavy snacks for breakfast and plenty of water, apart from binocs, cameras, spotting scopes, etc.
Non-members are requested to contribute Rs. 100/- each to the Society kitty.
Well, see you this Sunday for a great birding trip.
Regards.
Shafaat.
